Radiation Oncology
Utilizing intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), Riverview’s radiation oncologists have the most advanced cancer treatment option at their disposal. This state-of-the-art technology allows doctors and technicians to escalate the dose of cancer killing radiation to tumors, all while minimizing complications in surrounding healthy tissues. IMRT is the most sophisticated radiation treatment in the world for many cancers.
IMRT is used to treat patients with prostate, breast, head and neck, lung, pancreatic, and other cancers where precisely placed beams can be focused to carefully target tumor cells while protecting surrounding tissue.
With IMRT, there is a much greater chance of completely eliminating tumors and minimizing complications. Increased precision allows physicians to use radiation to treat areas that would have been considered too risky just a few years ago.
