Christmas night 2006, I was nestled all snug in my bed, while visions of sugar-plums danced in my head.  Then, I received the call no one wants to receive.  My Dad was being rushed to Riverview and I needed to come right away.  He underwent a triple bi-pass surgery, was diagnosed as a diabetic, and later that week had a stent implanted.  I am so thankful to Riverview because the Cardiac team saved my Dad’s life.

Each year millions of families like mine are affected by heart disease – through heart attack, congestive heart failure, vascular disease, or stroke. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that the number one killer in Hamilton County is heart disease. Here are some staggering facts about this deadly disease:

·         More than 5 million people will suffer chest pain this year

·         One out of every 300 of those patients will die on the way to an emergency room

·         For every 30-minute delay in treatment, death within one year increases by 7.5%

Riverview’s commitment to the cause has led to the development of the first open heart surgery program in the County, a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory (cath lab) and a widely respected cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.
