Is your child’s speech development behind?

As young children develop speech and language skills, it is natural for them to make mistakes. Most children eventually drop errors in their speech and develop normal speech. Some children continue to make errors beyond the age when other children have mastered specific sounds.

If you or your family and friends have difficulty understanding your child, or if your child seems frustrated because people don’t understand him/her, it may be time to seek a professional opinion. The speech therapists at Riverview are certified Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs). They are trained to give standardized tests that compare your child’s speech development milestones to those of other children the same age. These test results help determine whether your child could benefit from speech therapy.

The following chart gives general guidelines for development of speech sounds. If your child has not achieved these, the Speech-Language Pathologists at Riverview welcome your questions. Call 776-7225.
