Healing Ceiling Art Competition

Linda Wheat, artist and cancer survivor, discovered that during her treatments for cancer that visualizing nature and beauty encouraged her to hope. Therefore, the sterile white ceiling tiles of her hospital room just weren’t doing the trick. She developed the idea of transforming the cold and clinical tiles into a portrait of the sky in order to help other patients endure the uncertainty they experience. Linda inspired the Riverview Hospital Foundation to create our own “Healing Ceiling” project.

Presently, the Riverview Hospital Foundation and our Youth Board members from A Chance to Serve Program (ACTS) are seeking participants for the 8th Annual “Healing Ceiling” art competition. To participate, applicants need to read the criteria listed below and fill out the application form and mail back to the foundation by Monday, April 1, 2013.

Once the applications have been received, they will be reviewed and voted on by the Foundation’s Youth Board members. If selected to move on to the next round, the applicant will be notified and invited to an informational meeting held at the hospital.  In that meeting, applicants will receive a canvas to complete the final project. All applicants that advance to the next round of the project will have the opportunity to have their artwork permanently displayed at the hospital. One applicant will be selected as the Grand Prize Winner and will receive a $1,000 educational scholarship provided by USA Funds.

  • All applications must be received by Monday, April 1, 2013.
  • All applicants must be a current student at one of Hamilton County’s high schools.
